Twitter warns of 'unusual activity' from China and Saudi Arabia

Twitter warned of "unusual activity" from China and Saudi Arabia due to an error in an aid form.

The error, discovered Nov. 15 and repaired the next day, could have revealed the country code of users' phone numbers or the blocking of their account, the company said.

The IP addresses of both countries have sent a large number of requests using the form, said Twitter.

These could have been linked to "state-sponsored actors," Twitter said.

Pointing out that they could not confirm "the intention or attribution of some", the statement on Twitter said they had informed the authorities of their discovery in the interest of "total transparency".

People directly affected have been informed, said Twitter. No complete phone number or other personal information has been disclosed.

The share price of the company fell by nearly 7% on Monday.

The news of the mistake comes on the same day as the US Senate. He released a report that reveals how Russia has used all social media platforms to influence the elections of 2016

By particularly attacking conservatives with publications on immigration, race and gun rights, the country has also attempted to undermine the electoral power of left-wing African-American citizens by spreading misinformation about the electoral process.
